# DAO governance

Governance in DeFi is currently dominated by the plutocracy model, whereby your voting power or in this case “governing” power is determined by the number of tokens or NFTs you hold or own. While this model has certain appealing principles, it provides challenges in terms of operationalising the value propositions that form part of the SeiventuresNFT road map:

* Need for expertise: Not every tokenholder has the same level of expertise in DeFi or other areas. We need to be able to ensure that the decision making structure ensures we have the right expertise in place to develop and operate profitable value propositions - while always balancing risk reward considerations in our decisions
* Trust: We are a decentralised organisation, with NFT holders that are largely anonymous. To fulfil certain actions such as managing the Treasury or managing risk, we need to ensure the right level of oversight and rigour
* Speed of execution: Some parts of our value proposition can be subject to full votes by Seiventures. Others such as capitalising on opportunities in DeFi require the ability to act quickly - which requires a different approach to voting by the community, as well as execution processes that are able to function almost 24/7

Different models of governance that moved away from the plutocracy have been tried with varying success from extremely successful to being subject of on-chain exploits and on-going battle for control within the community. It’s crucial for SeiventuresNFT to outline the future structures and frameworks of its future Governance as part of the overall project roadmap. A model that improves on the plutocracy model, with enhanced frameworks to take into account the community’s take on any given subject. This will definitely also include discussions, debate and re-thinking of the proposed framework within the community, which will hopefully result in a framework that’s widely understood, respected and upheld by the community.

The proposed structure will combine meritocracy and plutocracy by electing a group of trusted, skilled and active members of the community into a governing Council and operating Committees to contribute into the governance process of the DAO. From sourcing deals to assessing DeFi opportunities, the Council and Committee will help foster and enrich the discussion within the community before any action is taken by the DAO on a given subject. This will also include sorting and sifting through proposals put up by the community for vote. More often than not, governance proposals are not thought through and explained in the best way possible - the Committee will help to enhance and assign priorities on these proposals to be eventually put up for governance vote amongst the community members.
